Brand voice
The consistent personality and tone a brand or creator uses across everything they publish, so their content sounds recognizably 'them.'
Brand voice is the distinctive personality that comes through in how a brand or creator writes and speaks. It's the difference between content that sounds like a faceless company and content a reader could recognize with the logo removed. Voice covers vocabulary, sentence rhythm, level of formality, humor, and point of view: the how of communication as well as the what.
It's worth separating two related terms. Voice is your consistent, underlying personality; it stays the same. Tone is how that voice flexes to fit the moment. The same brand can be playful in a celebratory post and measured in an apology, without losing its identity. A strong voice is stable enough to be recognizable and flexible enough to be appropriate.
Why it matters: consistency builds familiarity, and familiarity builds trust. When every post sounds like it comes from the same coherent person or team, audiences form a clearer sense of who you are and are more likely to remember and follow you. Inconsistent voice (corporate one day, casual the next) feels disorienting and forgettable.
Defining a brand voice usually means writing it down: a few adjectives ("direct, warm, a little irreverent"), some do's and don'ts, and example phrases. This becomes especially important with multiple contributors or ghostwriters, who all need to sound like the same person.
This is also where AI writing tools differ. Generic AI produces generic tone. Postopus's AI writing learns from your published posts and drafts in your voice, so its suggestions start from how you write.
