Quote post
Sharing another post while adding your own commentary on top: a repost that starts a conversation instead of silently amplifying.
A quote post (often "quote tweet" on X, "quote retweet" historically) is when you share someone else's post and add your own commentary above it. Unlike a plain repost or share, which forwards content silently, a quote post layers your perspective on top: the original appears embedded, and your words frame it.
The format is powerful because it does two things at once: it amplifies the original to your audience and adds your voice to it. That makes quote posts a natural engine for conversation. You can agree and build on an idea, respectfully disagree, add missing context, answer a question at length, or react to something newsworthy. The original creator often sees the quote and may respond, which can spark a wider exchange.
Used well, quote posts are a genuine engagement tool. Reacting to relevant content in your niche puts you into ongoing conversations, exposes you to the original poster's audience, and gives you a steady supply of things to post about without starting from a blank page. Thoughtful commentary on a widely shared post can earn you significant visibility.
Used poorly, they can backfire. "Dunking" (quoting someone specifically to mock them) invites pile-ons and can damage your reputation, and quoting purely to piggyback on a trend without adding anything reads as hollow. The tone you take travels with the amplification, so it's worth being deliberate.
Quote posts pair naturally with a clear point of view and, where appropriate, a call to action inviting your audience to weigh in. Because they tend to draw replies, they can lift your engagement rate, but only when the commentary genuinely adds something.
