Glossary
Carousel
A carousel is a post of several slides that readers swipe through one at a time. On LinkedIn it is usually a PDF document shown as swipeable pages.
A carousel is a post made of several slides that readers swipe or click through one at a time, instead of a single image or block of text. On LinkedIn, a carousel is usually a document post: a PDF whose pages are shown one after another in the feed.
Example
A post titled "5 mistakes in a first sales email" becomes a seven-page PDF: a cover page with the title, one page per mistake with a short fix, and a last page that asks readers which mistake they see most. The post text above it gives the one-line summary and the question.
On LinkedIn
LinkedIn lets you add a document to a post from "Start a post". According to LinkedIn Help:
- the file can be up to 100 MB and 300 pages;
- PPT, PPTX, DOC, DOCX and PDF files are accepted, and LinkedIn recommends converting to PDF for the best quality;
- you can edit the post's description later, but not the document itself;
- people who can see the post can download the document as a PDF.
A post can also carry up to 20 photos, which LinkedIn shows as a set of images rather than as document pages.
On X
X Help describes a post as text, photos, a GIF and/or video; documents are not on that list, so there is no LinkedIn-style document carousel. The nearest options are a post with several images or a thread, with one slide's idea per post.
Making one
One idea per slide, large text, and a first slide that says what the reader gets. Add alt text or a text summary so people using screen readers get the content too.
In Postopus you can build a LinkedIn carousel from your own images: Postopus turns them into the PDF for you, and you can also upload a PDF document. On X, a Postopus post can carry up to 4 images.
