How it works

Simple and instant

  1. Pick a platform

Switch between X, X Premium, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Threads. Each applies that platform's real limit, and X uses weighted counting (URLs are 23, CJK is 2).

  2. Type or paste once

Enter your text a single time. The main counter tracks the platform you picked, while the table below shows your count against every platform at once.

  3. Trim to fit everywhere

Use the all-platform table to find the tightest limit your post needs to clear, then trim until every row reads OK.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the character limits for each platform?

X (Twitter) allows 280 characters on standard accounts and 25,000 for Premium subscribers, using weighted counting. LinkedIn allows 3,000 characters per post. Instagram captions allow 2,200 characters. Threads text posts allow 500 characters. Each limit comes from the platform's own help or developer documentation, listed below these questions. This tool checks your text against all of them at once.

Why does the X count differ from a plain character count?

X uses weighted character counting. Every http:// or https:// URL collapses to a 23-character t.co link regardless of its real length, and every emoji and every CJK character (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) counts as 2. Letters in most alphabets and everyday punctuation count as 1. This counter applies those rules for X and X Premium; the other platforms use a standard character count.

What are the bio and profile character limits?

X's Help Center gives a maximum of 160 characters for the bio. LinkedIn says the About section holds up to 2,600 characters. The LinkedIn headline (220) and the Instagram bio (150) are the commonly reported limits for those fields; we found no LinkedIn or Instagram help page that states them. The reference table at the bottom of this tool lists all of them.

How long can an Instagram caption be?

Instagram's developer documentation caps captions at 2,200 characters, and Instagram's Help Centre says you can use up to 5 hashtags on a post.

How long can a Threads post be?

Meta's Threads documentation says text posts are limited to 500 characters.
