Bluesky's blog and developer docs, which we checked on October 27, 2026, describe no option to schedule a post in the Bluesky app itself. To schedule one, you use an app that connects to your Bluesky account and publishes at the time you pick. In Postopus you connect your Bluesky account once, write the post or thread, check it in a live Bluesky preview and pick a date and time.
The Bluesky facts here come from Bluesky's blog and developer docs, checked on October 27, 2026 (see Sources).
Scheduling in the Bluesky App
We read Bluesky's developer docs (docs.bsky.app, which now opens at bsky.network) and the 82 posts on Bluesky's blog on October 27, 2026, and found no way to schedule a post in the Bluesky app. The one blog post about scheduling, from July 30, 2024, announced a partnership with Buffer and presented scheduling as a Buffer feature, for planning Bluesky posts alongside other social media.
Bluesky's Limits: 300 Characters and 4 Images
Bluesky's developer docs set these limits for a post:
- Text: 300 characters, which the docs define more precisely as 300 Unicode grapheme clusters, roughly one for each character you see on screen.
- Images: up to four per post, and each image can have its own alt text.
- Replies and threads: a reply points to both the post it answers (the parent) and the first post of the thread (the root).
How to Schedule a Bluesky Post in Postopus, in 5 Steps
- Connect your Bluesky account. Open Social Accounts in the sidebar and choose Connect Account in the Bluesky panel. Type your handle, such as yourname.bsky.social, and choose Continue to Bluesky. Leave the handle empty to choose your account on bsky.social. You sign in on Bluesky and approve Postopus there, and Postopus never sees your password.
- Write the post. Choose Create Post in the sidebar and pick your Bluesky account. Write it yourself, or start from a Tako draft in your voice and edit it. The counter counts toward Bluesky's 300 characters as you type and counts graphemes, so an emoji counts as 1.
- Add images, a thread or a first comment. Add up to 4 images and write alt text for each one. For a thread, choose Add post (convert to thread) under the post and write the next posts below it. A first comment is optional; Postopus posts it as a reply right after the post.
- Check the preview. The live Bluesky preview shows the post with its images, the rest of the thread and the first comment under it, and updates as you type.
- Pick a time. Open Publish and choose Schedule Post, then pick a date, a time and a timezone. Or choose Add to queue to put the post in the next free slot of your weekly posting schedule. Postopus publishes the post at that time, and you do not need to keep the app open.
Where to See and Change Scheduled Bluesky Posts
Scheduled posts show on the Postopus calendar, in a month or week view (day by day on a phone), and in the Scheduled tab of your posts. Drag a post to another day on the calendar to reschedule it.
When you delete a published post in Postopus, the delete dialog has Also delete from Bluesky ticked, and Postopus deletes the post on Bluesky too.
To post the same thing elsewhere, pick your Bluesky account together with LinkedIn, X or Mastodon accounts, then keep one text or write a version for each. A thread can go to X, Bluesky and Mastodon together. The Bluesky scheduler page covers the rest of what Postopus does for Bluesky.
FAQ
Can You Schedule Posts on Bluesky?
Not in the Bluesky app, according to Bluesky's blog and developer docs as we read them on October 27, 2026. You schedule through an app that connects to your account, such as Postopus, which publishes the post at the time you set.
How Many Characters Can a Bluesky Post Have?
A Bluesky post can have 300 characters, which Bluesky's developer docs define as Unicode grapheme clusters. The Postopus counter counts graphemes too, so an emoji counts as 1. To check a post before you have an account, paste it into the free Bluesky character counter.
Can I Schedule a Bluesky Thread?
Yes. In Postopus, write the thread post by post, check it in the preview and schedule it. Each post publishes as a reply to the one before.
