An image or video was rejected
The file types and limits LinkedIn and X accept, and what to do when Postopus refuses a file.
Postopus checks every file when you add it, against the limits of the platforms the post goes to. When a post goes to both LinkedIn and X, the stricter limit applies.
File types#
Images in JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP, video in MP4, and documents in PDF (LinkedIn only). Anything else is refused with "is not a supported format".
Limits per platform#
| X | ||
|---|---|---|
| Images | Up to 20, 20 MB each | Up to 4, 5 MB each |
| Video | 1, up to 200 MB and 10 minutes | 1, up to 2 minutes 20 seconds (10 minutes with X Premium) |
| PDF document | 1, up to 100 MB | Not supported |
| Mixing images and video | No | Yes, up to 4 items in all |
A LinkedIn post carries one kind of media: images, or a video, or a document. Adding another kind offers to replace what is there.
Common messages#
| The message says | What to do |
|---|---|
| is too large | Make the file smaller, or for X use an image under 5 MB. |
| Maximum ... images allowed | Remove images, or deselect X if you need more than 4. |
| is ... long. Maximum is ... | Trim the video. |
| PDFs are not supported on X | Deselect your X accounts, or post the PDF on LinkedIn only. |
| Cannot mix different media types | Keep one kind of media in the post. |
If an upload fails partway, choose Retry upload on the file.
Rejected when publishing#
Sometimes LinkedIn or X accepts the upload and then refuses the file when the post goes out, for example "X media processing failed". The post is marked failed. Try a different file or format, then retry. See A post failed to publish.
