Reconnect an account
What to do when a LinkedIn or X connection expires and Postopus can no longer publish to it.
LinkedIn and X give Postopus access through a token, and a token can expire. When it does, Postopus cannot publish to that account until you connect it again.
How you find out#
LinkedIn and X can also stop accepting a token before it expires, for example when you remove Postopus in your LinkedIn or X settings. Postopus treats both cases the same way.
When Postopus finds that a connection no longer works while publishing, it deletes the old token and keeps the account in Social Accounts, marked as needing reconnecting:
- The account shows the reason, Access expired or was revoked, and a Reconnect button.
- Owners and admins get a notification in the app saying the account needs reconnecting. Choosing it opens Social Accounts.
- The post that could not go out is marked failed, with a message that the session expired. Other posts scheduled for that account fail the same way until you reconnect it.
- The post editor stops offering the account until you reconnect it.
A LinkedIn page publishes through the LinkedIn profile that connected it, so when the profile needs reconnecting, its pages do too. Pages have no Reconnect button of their own: choose Reconnect on the profile above them, and that fixes its pages as well.
Connect it again#
- Open Social Accounts.
- Choose Reconnect on the account and approve Postopus again. Sign in to LinkedIn or X as that same account.
- Retry or reschedule the posts that failed. See A post failed to publish.
Postopus restores the same account rather than adding a new one. If you sign in as a different account, Postopus adds that one as a new account and the first one still needs reconnecting.
If LinkedIn or X signs you in to the wrong account, see Connect a second account on the same platform.
Refresh a token by hand#
On a connected account, Refresh token asks LinkedIn or X for a fresh token. If it says the session expired, disconnect the account and connect it again.
Accounts copied to another workspace#
When you use Copy to workspace, the copy needs reconnecting in the new workspace. It shows a Reconnect button there; choose it and approve Postopus.
